The most important aspects of air travel are to make the journey of the passenger as much as comfortable and safe. It is here the air hostess play a great role. They are people who welcome passengers aboard an aircraft. They help them in their seating arrangements and arranging their hand baggage in the proper manner. They ensure the safety-belt arrangements and demonstrate the use of emergency equipment. They make the necessary announcements inside the flight. Air hostesses and flight stewards have to be on duty throughout the duration of the flight looking after passengers in general and taking special care of air-sick travelers, sick children and babies; and also the elderly people or very young who are traveling alone. They serve meals to passengers and to the crew. Eligibility For Air Hostess Career

For admissions into the Air Hostess Training Courses the eligibility criteria may vary from institute to institute. However most of the parameters remain more or less the same in most of the institutes. Minimum academic qualification should be 10+2 pass or graduate or diploma holder in hotel management. Age of the candidates should be between 17 to 25 years. There are also certain physical criteria for selection into this course like minimum height of 157.5 cm, weight proportionate to the height, normal eyesight and fair to clear complexion etc. Besides, air hostess should be proficient in languages like English, Hindi and Foreign languages, eligible for Indian Passport, unmarried and have pleasing personality. Admission is made through different stages of test. After initial screening, the candidate has to qualify written test and subsequent group discussions and interviews.

Job Prospects & Career Options For Air Hostess Career

After successful completion of Air Hostess Training Courses, there are large scale career opportunities waiting for the Air Hostess. They can find ample job avenues in public and private sector airlines. With privatization, foreign collaboration and open sky policies round the corner the future is quite bright for aspiring Air Hostess. Most airline offices are looking to increasing their fleet and there is a demand for Air Hostesses. They can find employment in public career like Indian Airlines and Air India. Besides better job option are also available in privately owned domestic and international airlines namely Sahara, Singapore airlines, Jet Airways, Kingfisher, Indigo, Spice Jet, Air Deccan etc. An Air Hostess has every chance to be promoted to the post of Senior Flight Attendant and then Head Attendant. Career as an Air Hostess would last for about eight to ten years, after that she could move on to the ground duties including the job of a Ground Hostess, Check Hostess, training of air hostess or work in the management level. The span of their flying career as symbols of hospitality may tend to be contractual, but experienced cabin crew are successfully absorbed in alternative careers in travel and tourism, hotels and in mass media, to name a few prominent options.
