Food processing is the set of methods and techniques
used to transform raw ingredients into food for consumption by humans
or animals. The food processing industry utilises these processes.
Food processing often takes clean, harvested or slaughtered and
butchered components and uses these to produce attractive and marketable
food products. Similar process are used to produce animal feed.These
include the basic or primary foods, such as wheat and rice products,
sugar, oil and pulses and the processes for converting them into
edible form and the processed foods such as biscuits and bakery
products, confectionery, dairy products, breakfast foods, meat and
fish products, fruit and vegetable products and all such items which
are processed and packaged to enhance and prolong their edible life.This
technology has indeed revolutionized the food habits of the people
in our country by having cooked and packed foods in attractive packages
in their homes. |
