The University has initiated its activities right from its year of inception by establishing the Directorate of Distance Education in 1998. The first programme on offer was B.A, with an intake of 2500 students in 18 Study Centres in three states of the country. Presently the Directorate caters to over 56,000 students enrolled in 108 study centres and 10 Programme centers in seventeen States of the country.
The University has established Eight Regional Centres at Delhi, Patna, Bangalore, Srinagar, Darbhanga, Kolkatta, Bhopal and Mumbai; camp offices at Jammu, Hyderabad city and Lucknow to co-ordinate with the study centers and to provide students support services in respective regions.
The Directorate of Distance education is mainly targeted to serve Uneducated Youth, Dropouts, Women, House Wives and Uneducated Adults. Most of the student’s are from middle and lower income socio-economic strata.
